Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is known as a
typical 19th century public building which is used for events
now. It first
began in 1864, then came a series of competitions for the design
which was won by Giuesppe Mengoni. Supporting the dome on the
building are large plaster eagles which are 47 m high and made of
complete iron and corrugated glass. The octagon floor was completely
repaired in 1966 with rare marble mosaic. In the marble mosaic there
is the symbol of the city of Turin which is a black bull with worn
genitals. The little things are noticed most about the interior such
as the telamons and caryatids and the Neo-Renaissance style stucco
and graffiti.
The Torre Velasca is known to be a breathtaking
building and has a great view from the top. It is the most famous
and the most talked about skyscraper and it is located right in the
middle of Milan. This building was designed by BBPR studio which
stands for Banfi, Belgiojoso, Peressutti, Rogers. They began the
process of the building in 1950 and it was completed 8 years later.
This building is considered part of the first generation of the
Italian modern architecture, but still a part of the Milanese
context. It is about 100 meters tall and has the shape of a
mushroom. This building stands out in the city skyline due to the
fact that all other buildings are made of domes and other towers.
Most visitors say the building reminds them of a typical medieval
castle.
